The Outback WOW program was an initiative resulting from a partnership between the Queensland Rural, Regional and Remote Women’s Network and Uniting Care Community to grow resilience and long term outcomes through providing leadership, self-development and mentoring opportunities for women from rural, regional and remote areas.
Funded by Uniting Care Community, the program included a weekend Influential Women Workshop, an Influential Outback Dinner (for both men and women), as well as group webinars, a facilitated closed group social media network and one on one mentoring.
The program brought Catherine Marriott, Influential Women to Longreach on the 17 & 18 October 2015 to deliver an Influential Women 2 day workshop and a keynote address to the Influential Outback Dinner. 28 women from 11 different communities came from as far away as Boulia and Charleville to Longreach for the workshop, with travel and accommodation costs subsidised through support from the Remote Area Planning and Development Board and the Rural Financial Counselling Service Queensland – Central Queensland Region. 50 people attended the Influential Outback Dinner.
The program participants were then offered the opportunity to remain connected through social media and further support through one on one mentoring which was completed in April 2016.
